EDU 639 - Most Important Point Blog

According to my interview the important issue that I discovered in educational technology is funding. Due to funding education is not receiving the full funding that is very much needed for the advancement of technology and its students. As a result, many states have made many cuts to education funding since the start of the recession and, in many states those cuts will even deepened. Also, due to little funding many computers and software is not up to date and need to be updated even varies labs that the computers are in. With little fund, many schools try to keep much of the software and computers up to date.

During the interview it was stated because states rely heavily on spending, reductions in response to the recession, rather than on a more balanced mix of spending cuts and revenue increases, funding for schools and other public services fell sharply. Because funds are so important to educational technology, many students will not be able to learn the necessary skills for technology as of today. Even so, this will even cause teacher shortages, due to funding. Addition, when doing this interview funding gave me a different view about educational technology, but I am very sure, up the road head things will change, because our future professors are important.

  1. Eric,

Very interesting blog!!! Just last night I heard on the local news (I live in south-central Virginia) that more “cuts” are causing local districts to combine schools and completely close one school. It is frightening to think about crowded classrooms and 15 year old technology in the computer lab, if there even is a computer lab. We have steadily been falling behind the world in educational aspects over recent years. Interesting that other countries are seeing the value of an education and spending untold amounts of money in training their populations for the future and we, one of the most technologically cultures in the world are cutting educational funding??? Things that make you go, Hummm…

    Thank You for your thoughts.

  2. Eric,
Funding is a real issue! Even though the federal government is planning on giving more money to schools, I am not sure they are allocating the funds properly. Do you have thoughts on this?

    1. Hello Dr. C
I truly believe that funds from the National Governemnt is being allocated properly. I was reading on an article that the government will be releasing more funds to educational technology, due to the fact, technology is advancing rapidly.
      Blessings

  3. Eric at my school funding education technology is a problem because I work at an alternative school in which the county thinks that at my school we do not need resources and other materials to help our students to succeed academically. In my county they have also cut funding due to the recession. At my school we need funds to be able to fulfill the needs of the students and for them to become 21st century learners. We have some Apple Computers still in some of the teacher’s classroom today ancient history. This recession is not only causing hardship for the students getting the devices they need to be lifelong learners but it is also causing teachers to not being able to do their jobs effectively.

  4. Good afternoon Eric
It seems that our interviews revealed that same data that schools have to factor if they can afford the new technology. I know from our own school that we need to look at some additional and new technology, but it will cost over a million dollars. Being a private institution, we have to determine not just if there is a return but, how much of need for those particular classes. It usually means that some of these great ideas and plans may take a few years before we can implement them.
    Have a blessed week
